Interactive smart boards have gone from “nice to have” to standard kit in meeting rooms, boardrooms and classrooms — but the price range across the market is wide, and it’s not always obvious why one board costs more than another. Here’s what actually drives the cost.
The single biggest factor: screen size
Interactive displays are typically sold in a handful of sizes, and the jump from one size to the next is the biggest line item in the price. As a guide:
- 65″ — suited to small meeting rooms and huddle spaces.
- 75″ — the common choice for boardrooms, where more people need to see the screen clearly from further back.
- 86″ — built for large training rooms or spaces where the board needs to be readable from the back of the room.
Bigger isn’t automatically better — an 86″ board in a small meeting room is wasted spend, while a 65″ board in a large training room means people at the back are squinting.
What else moves the price
- Touch technology. Higher-end boards use fine, multi-point infrared touch (commonly 55-point or more), which makes writing and multi-person collaboration feel natural. Cheaper touch systems can feel laggy or miss touches, especially with more than one person writing at once.
- Resolution. 4K UHD is now the standard for anything used for presentations or video calls — lower resolution boards will look noticeably softer, especially on a large screen.
- Operating system and certification. Boards running a proper, certified Android build with genuine Google Play Store access work straight out of the box — no extra PC, no workaround app stores, no IT setup headache. Uncertified or older Android builds can mean missing apps or awkward workarounds.
- Built-in camera, microphone and speakers. A board with an integrated 4K camera, microphone array and proper speakers (look for Dolby Atmos or similar) replaces a separate video-conferencing setup — worth factoring into the total cost of kitting out a meeting room, since you’re not buying a camera and speaker system separately.
- Mounting and installation. Larger boards are heavy — a 75″ or 86″ unit can weigh 45–60kg — so proper wall mounting (VESA-rated) and professional installation matters both for safety and for the board looking right in the room.

What to check before you buy
- Is it EDLA-certified? This is Google’s certification for Android displays — it guarantees genuine Play Store access and proper app support, rather than a workaround.
- How many people can screen-share at once? Useful for boardrooms where several people present in one meeting.
- What’s the warranty and support like? A board that fails during a client presentation is a real business cost — check who services it and how fast.
